Abstract

The OffRoads website persuades users to reduce their gasoline consumption by switching to public transportation for the purpose of reducing their environmental impact. It is aimed primarily at people who commute regularly to work via car, as they could have the most significant effect. OffRoads will use many methods to convince users to change their behavior. It will show users not only the global effects of carbon dioxide emissions and foreign oil dependence but the tailored personal rewards in the form of increased physical activity, free time, and monetary savings. They will also have an opportunity to communicate with others who have successfully made such a change to mass transit to gain motivation and encouragement through a local social network in the form of a blog. A portion of this website will be available on mobile devices.

As we progress with our project, updates will be provided regularly. We are working on getting the beta version of the blog and OffRoads Calculator.
